Career as Industrial Designer

How do I get there? 

1) After 12th PCM Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED for IIT Mumbai),  

2) Bachelor of Industrial Design

3) After Bachelor of Industrial Design Masters or Diploma in Industrial Designe Design through Common Entrance Examination for Design CEED entrance exam 

Note : A masters degree in Industrial Design can be done after B.E. Mechanical or Production

 

PROFICIENCY REQUIRED :

  • Professional practice in visualization, conceptualizing and successful execution of New and challenging Product Designing projects (Industrial Design and development and implementation)
  • Experience with proven ability to lead cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams for project execution
  • An understanding of production techniques and constantly applying it in design practice An exposure to working at the shop floor, to make the product innovations flow on assembly line Design by detailing - Customized methodology to arrive at a concrete solution Directing and learning through knowledge sharing - Communication is a two-way process.
  • Developing venders with respect to their competence and tweaking it as and when required Completion of projects within short lead times, by fore-sighting errors based on experience and
  • knowledge of every possible stakeholder Brief formulation and Proposals for prospective products with product management Balance Portfolio strategy inputs with interactions and feedbacks from marketing components Decision making with acknowledged value of diverse stakeholders interests
  • Development of new products from concept to commercialization, viz. Spinning Ring, Bottom Roller Bearing
  • Market Survey & Analysis

  • Gap Analysis & Project Feasibility Report
  • Idea generation, Iterations, Designing, Prototyping

TOOLS REQUIRED :

  • Design Practice Understanding brief of the project at the very beginning, to avoid errors in later stages Understanding project scope and project planning Mapping of product design, Design conceptualizing and detailing - presentations
  • Constant eye on manufacturability-Design for manufacturing, assembly, Prototyping and testing, Plastic detailing,
  • using various team inputs on FEA, mold flow, Tolerance Stack-up and GD&T, Failure modes effects analysis, Pugh matrix, DVP&R, DoE Softwares: 3 D: Current platform- Solid Works, Rhinoceros, Auto CAD, Rendering with Keyshot, 3d Studio Max Software competency: Surface modeling of any intricate model and to generate new methods 2 D: Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw; Other: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel
